Training Aims & Method

Training aims 

This course will cover a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge that would equip professional housekeepers for the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of the industry in areas such as sustainability practices, emerging technologies in housekeeping, business and entrepreneurship skills, housekeeping operations, staff training and development and leadership skills.

 

At the end of the course, participants will be able to apply skills and knowledge obtained to implement and drive sustainability practices, adopt technology, and smart solutions to streamline processes, and future-proofing job role through upskilling and reskilling of self and team members.

 

Teaching method 

Lecture, case studies, discussions, and hands-on application through work exercises and project development sheet.

 

Entry Requirements 

  • Participants should have relevant supervisory or management experience in the housekeeping and/or rooms division.

 

Target Audience 

This course is tailored for Directors of Housekeeping, Executive Housekeepers, Assistant Mangers, Senior Supervisors, Rooms Division Managers and Front Office Managers looking for career development to Rooms Division.

 

Workshop Duration

22.5 hours / 3 days (09:00 am to 5:30 pm (excluding 1 hour of lunch break))

Masterclass Objectives

This course will cover a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge that would equip professional housekeepers for the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of the industry in areas such as sustainability practices, emerging technologies in housekeeping, business and entrepreneurship skills, housekeeping operations, staff training and development and leadership skills.

 

At the end of the course, participants will be able to apply skills and knowledge obtained to implement and drive sustainability practices, adopt technology, and smart solutions to streamline processes, and future-proofing job role through upskilling and reskilling of self and team members.

This course covers the following:

  • Explain the impact of environmental, social, and economic sustainability on housekeeping
  • Calculate carbon footprint of a hotel stay
  • Understand the role of sustainability in housekeeping operations.
  • Highlight trends in sustainability management in Housekeeping operations
  • Identify areas for application and/or improvement of sustainability practices
  • Design an implementation strategy to achieve the organisation’s green management goals
  • Communicate sustainability strategies to stakeholders through a winning presentation
  • Engage colleagues in regular dialogues on industry sustainability practices to promote individual participation
  • Prepare a method to review the effectiveness of adopting alternative methodologies for the management of sustainable operations using green initiatives
  • Produce new concepts of services and room offerings catering to the next generation of travelers
  • Analyse P&L using data analytics to make smart business decisions
  • Use tools to control costs
  • Plan, prepare and present budgets for housekeeping costs
  • Obtain information on technology used to increase productivity
  • Understand the cycle of coaching
  • Deliver clear expectations to the team using techniques such as talking straight, active listening and demonstrating respect
  • Gain insights and learn tools into handling inferior performance by correcting
  • Use delegation as a tool to motivate key players in the team
  • Gain insight into using tools for performance measurement
  • Practice problem solving and produce a clear action plan which delivers results
  • Implement the 5-step training programme for quality control
  • Develop winning strategies by collaborating with external contractors and agencies
  • Undertake a cost benefit analysis of contracting out verses in-house operations
  • Use the PA mapping tool to set up PA operations from the start

  • Mode of Study

    In-person deliver, hands on direct practice with Ms. Elizabeth Lycette.

  • Upon successful completion of the Masterclass, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement by SHATEC Orchard.

View Payment Terms

* In accordance with the Budget 2022 announcement, the GST rate will be increased from:

(i) 7% to 8% with effect from 1 Jan 2023; and

(ii) 8% to 9% with effect from 1 Jan 2024.
