About This Course

The WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines is intended for people who have little or no prior knowledge. It is suitable wherever a good level of wine knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies, for example in the customer service and sales functions of hospitality, retailing and wholesaling industries. It is also useful for those who have a general interest in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge.

 

Course duration: 17 hours

 

Session: 2 Full Days; 9am – 6pm & Closed-book Exam: 11am – 12pm

Who Should Attend

This course is a beginner to intermediate level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.

 

Entry Requirements
Participant(s) must be at least 18 years old and above, i.e. legal drinking age in Singapore, to partake in any of the WSET® Programmes.

 

Participant(s), for religious, health or any other reason(s), who do not wish to sample any alcohol during the course, may do so (only applicable for WSET Level 1 & 2 Programmes).

What You'll Learn

You will be able to describe and compare the styles of wines produced from internationally and regionally important grape varieties, interpret wine labels from the main wine-producing regions of the world and give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service, as well as understand the principles of wine tasting and evaluation.

Course Outline

The course covers the following content:

  • How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wines® (SAT)
  • How environmental factors, grape-growing, winemaking and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties
  • The style and quality of wines made from 22 regionally important grape varieties and produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world
  • How grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of Sparkling wines & Fortified wines
  • Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality
  • Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine
  • Principles of food and wine pairing

Course Structure

  • Methodology

    This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time, with 16 classroom hours (including 1 assessment hour) conducted in person and 11 hours of self-study.

  • Assessment

    Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.

    Results
    Results will be issued based on the following timeline:
    Level 2: 10 weeks from assessment date

     

    SHATEC will inform participants of your results via email once we have received the Gradelist from WSET®. Your certificates and lapel pin will come at a later date and you will be advised of the collection details once we have received it.

     

    Re-sit of Exam
    Please note that if you have not passed the exam, you will be required to attend a re-sit (in order to be eligible for any course fee funding).

     

    The exam re-sit fee is as follows:
    Level 2 (Theory): S$ 175.00 per sitting (incl. GST)

  • Certificate

    Upon successful completion of the examination you will receive a WSET® certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET® certified logo.

* In accordance with the Budget 2022 announcement, the GST rate will be increased from:

(i) 7% to 8% with effect from 1 Jan 2023; and

(ii) 8% to 9% with effect from 1 Jan 2024.

9% GST will apply to full payments received by SHATEC from 1 January 2024 onwards.
Full payments received by SHATEC before 1 January 2024 will have no adjustment to the 8% GST.
