About This Course
The WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines is intended for people who have little to no prior knowledge of wines. It is designed to provide a sound but simple introduction to wines. The qualification will assist those who need a basic familiarity with the main types and styles of wines, for example people who work with wines as part of a larger beverage portfolio in the retail and hospitality sectors.
Course duration: 7 hours
Session: 1 Full Day; 9am – 4.15pm & Closed-book Exam: 4.15pm – 5pm
Who Should Attend
This course is a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine.
Entry Requirements
Participant(s) must be at least 18 years old and above, i.e. legal drinking age in Singapore, to partake in any of the WSET® Programmes.
Participant(s), for religious, health or any other reason(s), who do not wish to sample any alcohol during the course, may do so (only applicable for WSET Level 1 & 2 Programmes).
What You'll Learn
You will be able to know the key stages in grape growing and winemaking, list the principal types and styles of wines, state the key characteristics of wines made from the principal grape varieties as well as other examples of wines, and know the key principles involved in the storage and service of wine. They will consequently be in a position to answer customer queries and provide recommendations for the service of wine.

The course covers the following content:
- The main types and styles of wines
- Common wine grapes and their characteristics
- How to store and serve wine
- The principles of food and wine pairing
- How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Methodology
This qualification has a minimum requirement of 6 classroom hours (including a 45 minutes assessment) conducted in-person.

Assessment
Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.

Results will be issued based on the following timeline:
Level 1: 30 working days after receipt of pack returned to WSETSHATEC will inform participants of your results via email once we have received the Gradelist from WSET. Your certificates and lapel pin will come at a later date and you will be advised of the collection details once we have received them.
Re-sit of Exam
Please note that if you have not passed the exam, you will be required to attend a re-sit (in order to be eligible for any course fee funding).The exam re-sit fee is as follows:
Level 1 (Theory): S$ 145.00 per sitting (incl. GST). -
Certificate
Upon successful passing the examination, you will receive a WSET® certificate and lapel pin.
